Gallipolis Rotary Club

Recipients of the 40th Annual Gallipolis Rotary Memorial Scholarship for the school year 2010-2011 were recently announced by Jodie McCalla, Gallipolis Rotary Club Scholarship Chairman.  Recipients include Brenton Tyler Eastman, Kaitlyn Roberts, Austin Wilson, and Carissa Wolfe.  They each will receive a scholarship award of $1000.

Brenton ‘Tyler’ Eastman is the son of Brent and Teresa Eastman of Gallipolis.  He attends Gallia Academy High School and is in the top 10% of his class.  Tyler is a member of the National Honor Society and was the Captain of the 2010-2011 GAHS Basketball team.  He received the All SEOAL Academic Award for three years in a row and was named All SEOAL in Baseball for 2 years.  He is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Gallia Academy Key Club, and plays Baseball, Football, and Basketball at GAHS.  Tyler also participates in many non-school activities such as the Gallia County Junior Fair Youth Board and the Red Dot school campaign.  Tyler tentatively plans to attend Marshall University and major in Business.

Kaitlyn Roberts is the daughter of Gregory Roberts and Cyndra Roberts of Vinton, Ohio.  She attends River Valley High School.  Kaitlyn has received many awards such as Student of the Quarter, the State FFA & Greenhand FFA Degrees, in addition to track & volleyball awards in her conference.  She has been a member of FFA, Future Christian Athletes, Beta Club, PRIDE, SADD, and Art Club.  She also is active in volleyball, basketball, and track and field.  She has also been a member of 4-H for 9 years and participates in Junior Leaders, Gallia County Junior Fair Youth Board, Ohio Club Lamb Association, National Jr. Swine Registry, Car Teens, & Club Volleyball.  Kaitlyn plans to attend the University of Rio Grande and major in Education.

Austin Wilson is the son of Brett and Lisa Wilson of Gallipolis.  He attends Gallia Academy High School.  Austin has received several awards in football, namely, All League SEOAL, All District, and All Ohio.  He was the League MVP, Gridiron Glory Player of the Year, and Old Spice Player of the Year.  He is also very active in basketball and track, and was named as Outstanding Mentor in the Students against Tobacco Abuse Mentor Program (STAMP).  Austin is also a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and he lifeguards at the Gallipolis City Pool.  Austin has already received the Provost’s Scholarship and Distinguished Scholar Award from Coastal Carolina University.  Austin plans to attend University of Cincinnati to major in pharmacy or psychology, or attend Coastal Carolina University to major in pre-pharmacy.

Carissa Wolfe is the daughter of William and Cynthia Wolfe of Gallipolis.  She attends River Valley High School and is at the top of her class.  Carissa has received several awards including the Academic Excellence Award, Academic Festival Honoree, Honor Roll, Scholar Athlete, and Beta Convention Awards.  She is a member of the Beta Club, Student Council, FCA, Drama Club, Art Club, Key Club, PRIDE Club, National Honors Society, Academic Quiz Team, and the Yearbook committee.  Carissa also is a member of the URG Swim Club, River Valley Swim Team, and the River Valley Cross Country team.  Her non-school activities include the Rodney United Methodist Church Youth Group, Holding on to Positive Endings volunteer, and Camp Invention Counselor.  Carissa plans to attend Wright State University, majoring in Biology and attend medical school.
